PSVPN is the VPN (Virtual Private Network) service provided by PSMail.
PSVPN is included with your PSMailbox subscription. VPN is a private network system that uses the public internet to "tunnel" traffic secretly and securely from your PC to our computer network. This allows you to safely access your PSMailbox and the rest of the Internet from a limited or unsecure network connection (ex. public wireless or internet cafe).
How does it work?
When you connect to PSVPN using a VPN software client or natively supported Windows VPN dial-in, your computer will temporarily terminate all its communications with our central server. Once the VPN network is set up, the computer will begin to tunnel all traffic at the network level back our central VPN servers. Your local wireless network or internet cafe network will not be able to read or analyze your network traffic. It is highly recommended that you access your PSMailbox and other Internet services through PSVPN.
What types of VPN does PSMail offer?
We support both PPTP and SSL VPN protocols for VPN usage. PPTP is Point To Point Tunneling Protocol and is supported by most Microsoft systems. It requires simple configuration in both Windows and MAC OS X systems. However, most network providers do not support this type of tunneling. SSL VPN is less network intrusive and has better reliability over multiple open network providers. However, SSL VPN requires that a client be installed on Windows and MAC systems. These clients are free and are available from our website. Login at https://mail.psmail.net/ and then go to the PSVPN link on the left sidebar. Be sure to choose your operating system from the options as instructions differ from system to system.
Which type of VPN do you recommend?
In most cases, SSL VPN is the better choice. SSL VPN is ideal for securely accessing restricted networks. PPTP VPN, on the other hand, uses a specific protocol which is at times blocked by firewalls, ISP's, or by the local network providers.
I am unable to connect to SSL VPN, or after connecting to SSL VPN I am unable to access any websites. What should I do?
If you are unable to install the client, please make sure your system is up to date and you have followed our instructions at SSL VPN SETUP.
In our experience, most connectivity issues after you have successfully installed and connected to SSL VPN are due to the firewall settings on your PC. If you are having trouble connecting, check to make sure your firewall allows PSVPN to connect.
If you are still able to connect using SSL VPN but cannot browse any websites, please contact us at
This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
. In your email, please include the log files for the SSL VPN. To collect log files, connect to the VPN and then right click on the SSL VPN icon in your status bar. Then click on View Log or Show Status (Details... for MAC users). If you cannot find one of these options, look in the submenu under ssl vpn when you right click the SSL VPN icon.
How much do I pay for the VPN service?
VPN service is included with your PSMail subscription. It does not require any additional fee or special activation from our service center.
What operating systems are supported?
We support Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux (Generic) with our VPN client. Other systems, such as iPhone and other mobile software for VPN access, are partially supported.
What about "man-in-the middle" attacks against SSL VPN's?
Our SSL VPN system uses custom certificates with unique Certificate Authority. This setup is not susceptible to "man in the middle" attacks like most popular SSL VPNs that use browsers to access remote networks.
