Password Security: Three Systems
Ancient cities got pretty nervous if there were holes in their defenses. You should too! That's why PSMail provides three seperate systems to keep your first line of defense - your password - safe and secure. The first and third systems, listed below, are optional and can be used at your convenience and need. The second is a policy that we enforce at all times. By using a combination of one, two, or all three of these systems, you can be confident that your password is secure against even the most determined invaders.

  • First is our Virtual Keypad Login. Some public networks, like at an airport or an Internet Cafe', use keystroke loggers and "password sniffer" programs. As you type on your keyboard, your keystrokes are being recorded and mined for the passwords that you enter. Without even knowing it, you've just surrendered your first line of defense!
However, PSMail's login screen allows you the option of using a virtual keypad - a digital keyboard that appears on your screen - for entering in your login information. By using the virtual keypad, you avoid entering keystrokes on your computer's keyboard and bypass the "password sniffer's" attempt to record your password. For additional information on the Virtual Keypad, click here.

  • Second is our One Time Password (OTP) policy. It's not uncommon for users to misplace or forget their password and write to us for help. PSMail staff will NEVER access your password information. That would violate your privacy and compromise your security. Instead, if you can't remember your password, we issue you an OTP. This password can only be used once. It allows you access into your PSMail account so that you can reset your own password. It's a great way to provide seemless, secure access, even when your primary password has been misplaced. To learn about additional uses for the OTP, click here.

  • Third is our optional Software Token login. PSMail users have the option to download (free of change) a Software Token Application onto their computer. This application creates a random token every fifteen minutes and is linked to your PSMail account. When you log in to PSMail, you enter your regular password and the current token. Even if your password should become compromised, no one can access your information without the token, which is located on your computer and changes regularly. It's like putting Fort Knox inside Alcatraz: your account is doubly secure! For additional information on the Software Token system, as well as setup instructions, click here.
